Monthly Favourites - April

So as you may know if you've been reading my blog for a while, I don't post monthly favourites on a regular basis but this month I've come across a few new things that I've been loving that I wanted to share them! Some of these products I have been sent and others I have either purchased myself or rediscovered. I've categorised them into beauty favourites, fashion favourites and lifestyle favourites (which pleases the OCD in me) and I'd love to know your favourites!

/ B E A U T Y /

The renowned tanning brand based down under, Loving Tan got it touch and very kindly sent me a little package with a few products to try out and I HAD to share them with you. Firstly, including Tim Tams in the packaging was definitely a bonus and the brand have also kindly provided me with a code 'freya' for readers to use at the checkout to get yourself a free Delux Applicator Mitt with any purchase. So as for the product itself, I tried out the Ultra Dark mousse which in comparison to any other tanning mouse I've used is far more warm/olive toned and the Deluxe Mitt is well worth getting for the application. The brand Loving Tan oozes luxury and let's not forget to mention how beautiful the packaging is! I'm incredibly impressed with all sides to the business from the product formula, the brand image & packaging and the great customer service. I now understand why it's heavily promoted across social media and it's definitely a brand I will be re-purchasing for many years to come! The bikini featured in this photo is from which you can find here.

I've kindly been gifted the Too Faced Sweet Peach lip glosses and I have to praise two things, the formula and the smell!! The peach scent is so sweet and delicious and I simply want to lick it off, that being said however I love the formula too much to waste it. I love the glossy lip look at the minute but can't stand the sticky texture that a lot of lip glosses seem to have and these Too faced lip glosses are perfect. An old favourite of mine was the Too Faced lip injection and the other favourite lipgloss brand for me has always been the Clarins formula. Speaking of Clarins, I also very kindly received a selection of products from their Summer range and having seen that Zoella is a big fan of their lip oils, I was excited to receive their Instant Light Lip Oil in Honey Glam. I'm also trying a few other products they sent me and will let you know how I get on! If you're interested in live updates, you can follow me on Snapchat and Instagram Stories, just search Freya Farrington!

I got the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream for Christmas (a recommendation from several people) and I'm so glad I finally tried it out myself! It's lightweight and super moisturising and has made a significant improvement to my skin. I do find with skincare that consistence is key, it's hard to see results from a product after trying it out once and having used this moisturiser every night (and sometimes morning too) for a few months, it's definitely a holy grail moisturiser that will remain a part of my skincare collection for a very long time! Having recently completed an online skin diagnosis survey on Ekia's website, I've been recommended and sent their Corrective Face Cream to try so I will be updating you on that over on my Snapchat and Instagram stories too!

/ F A S H I O N /

This month I've kindly been gifted a few tech accessories and although I'm not sponsored by these brands, I have to praise them for their great customer service and lovely comments, not to mention the quality of the products themselves. The numerous occasions where I've ordered a phone case online from eBay only to be very disappointed with the final quality and to feel misled with the advertised imagery, I've always been cautious with who to buy from. That being said there are many smaller brands out there that are true to themselves, use their own imagery and produce great quality products that last. My 'F' initial personalised iPhone case by Sophie Elizabeth London is a new favourite of mine, it's understated and a classic and I love it! I've also been gifted a Filofax Saffiano Wrap Tablet Case for my iPad which I shared on my Snapchat and Insta-stories and I have got a lot of use out of it with it having a built in notepad which of course is perfect if you're a list-person like me or if you work on-the-go a lot!

This month I’ve been loving hayu and they’ve even sent me over an amazing box of goodies for a perfect night in with hayu! hayu is THE reality TV subscription service. Personally I have a load of subscriptions to TV and film services like Netflix and Amazon Prime but hayu is definitely my go-to Sunday chill out TV of choice! At only £3.99 a month and no contract, it’s the cheapest of all my subscription services too. If you’d like to try it out for yourselves then get your first month FREE by clicking this link :

An up and coming Youtube influencer I've recently discovered, Imogen from Imogenation, recently mentioned in one of her videos that she wanted to start including a quote in her regular favourites post and I thought what a fab idea! So sorry Imogen but I have stolen you idea (*guilty hands up*) and this month I wanted to share a favourite quote that has been resonating with me and it is: "Do it now, because later sometimes means never". The reason this is resonating with me at the moment is that I've ummed and ahhed for so long about creating a Youtube channel considering it's the social media platform I enjoy the most and so I've recently decided I'm just going to go for it! At the end of the day I love Youtube and spend a lot of my relaxing time on it and have always wanted to become a part of it myself. I appreciate the difficulty and the struggle that new Youtubers can have but it's something I enjoy and something that I feel will personally go hand in hand with my other social media platforms and blog. After all, most bloggers and influencers I follow ALL have their own Youtube platform and you can really show your personality in video format. If you want to support me in my Youtube venture, head over to subscribe and expect video content VERY soon!!!

If you follow me on my Instagram or Snapchat, you may have seen that I've mentioned that I'm currently on a 10 week health and fitness program to get in shape for two very exciting trips this summer to Ibiza and Barbados! So through a little trial and error, my boyfriend and I have come up with a homemade cous cous recipe that we like to call Guacocouscous! Using your imagination you may be able to work out that its a Avocado based recipe with simple and fresh ingredients including wholemeal organic cous cous, chopped avocado, salt pepper and a few mixed seeds and pine nuts in, it's absolutely delicious! Why not 'avo-go' yourself...see what I did there ;)

OOTD - Mid Week Outfit

As we reach hump-day after having spoiled ourselves with a lovely long bank holiday weekend, we already await with excitement for the next two bank holidays in May! Pay day is upon us and the sun is starting to shine ahead of the long awaited summer. Overall it's a happy time right now so what better way to celebrate than to break away (slightly) from my no colour comfort zone and brave the blush! I have to say this brand that I have come across in TKMaxx recently has such great quality shirts, they're called Velvet Heart and I've spotted a few pieces in TKMaxx or you can shop their current stock from them online.

10 Minimal Bloggers to Follow

With a prime focus of monochrome and minimal, there are so many blogs now that share the ultimate lifestyle goal of less is more. While I too love neutral tones and colours, and tend to opt for minimal jewellery and accessories as well as constantly de-cluttering my home to fit this lifestyle choice, here are some of my new favourite minimalist bloggers to follow, enjoy!

I'm always looking out for new bloggers to follow who share a similar style/theme, if you have any good suggestions or are a blogger yourself, let me know!

Makeup Basics No Girl Should Be Without

When it comes to makeup, it can sometimes seem like there is quite literally a solution for everything on the market these days. Whether you want glitter lips or an impossibly highlighted brow bone, makeup sure has got extreme. For those of us who love makeup and who love pushing the boundaries with it, all this makes it a very exciting time to be part of the industry. But for the average makeup user, it can all seem a little overwhelming at times. Perhaps your makeup bag is full to burst with a whole host of products you know you are simply not going to use, and you'd like to strip it back to basics. If this is painting a familiar portrait for you, take a look at these simplistic makeup basics that are essential to any girl's collection.

/ A Precise Eyeliner /

Has there ever been a more iconic eye makeup look than the sexy cat-eye? Winged eyeliner has been around for years, with its origins beginning way back in Ancient Egypt, and then seeing a revival in the 1960s. Now, it seems, it is well and truly here to stay, and it is a timeless and classic look favored by many. But getting it right can often be a little tricky, even for me! If you don't have the steadiest of hands, you could end up with a smudged mess rather than the sleek flick you were hoping for - and don't even get us started on when your wings don't match! The best way to nail this look every time is by choosing a tool that you work well with. For some people, liquid eyeliner is the way forward. For others, a gel or a pen is favoured. Or why not try soften the trend with a dark powder along the lash line. Go for whatever you feel comfortable with, and practice that flick until you get it right!

/ A Great Foundation /

All great makeup looks require a flawless base, as it gives you something smooth and even to work on. Even if you are opting for minimal makeup, airbrush-style skin is the ultimate goal for many of us, and it can be achieved with the right foundation. You don't need to spend a fortune here either, as some foundations such as the Chriszen Moist Cake foundation come in at very respectable, high street prices. Always apply with a brush or a sponge rather than your fingers - it will make the foundation glide on your skin much better, and it is also more hygienic too. I truly believe in investing into a good base and if you're going to make an investment in one makeup item, it should be the primer or foundation. I love using the NARS Sheer glow foundation if you like the dewy finish, this one is great.

/ A Basic Brow Kit /

It seems crazy to think that a mere five years ago, the idea of filling in your eyebrows was almost unheard of! Now, it is an essential part of most women's everyday makeup routine; which is why it makes sense to have a brilliant brow kit as part of your makeup toolkit. Pencils are the most common tools here, although powders and gels are also used for greater definition. My favourite product to use at the moment is Anastasia Brow Dip Brow Pomade in Taupe. Always follow your natural brow shape and try not to overpluck - remember that big brows are here to stay!

OOTD / Easter Sunday Outfit

First of all, Happy Easter everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying a fabulous day whatever it is that you have chosen to do on this lovely long bank holiday weekend. Being self-employed means that everyday tends to be a working day and you always have to 'be available' so that being said, I have actually had a fairly relaxing time, I've been clearing out and tidying up my bedroom and been using this long weekend as a sort of 'cheat' weekend in terms of food. A couple of takeaways, a few Easter eggs and not a single salad leaf! I'll admit, I have a wedding to attend in Ibiza (click here to discover my tips on what to wear to a summer wedding) so I have a 10 week period after the bank holiday to get my butt into gear, start hitting the gym at least 3 times a week and I'll be eating clean up to the holiday where it's safe to say we'll all be enjoying ourselves and over indulging I'm sure! As for today though, after a fairly casual day spent at home tidying and organising, I've put on a smart casual outfit to go on a dinner date with the boyfriend and possibly for a couple of drinks! Keeping it fairly casual and comfy I've taken inspiration from the corset belt trend, this is my Easter Sunday Outfit of the Day!

What to Wear for a Summer Wedding

I'm super excited for my first wedding I'll be attending in a while for several reasons and I'm particularly excited about it being in IBIZA!!! It's the first time I've ever been to the island and the wedding is a friend's wedding which will be taking place in the first week of July. I'm sure the sun will be shining and I've already planned to blog the experience with the sun shining, the surrounding views and the fabulous fashion! Head over to my brand new Youtube channel to subscribe and stay tuned for some exciting videos to come! I'll also be blogging my holiday in Barbados in August so you can expect sun, sea and sand this summer and I cannot wait!

So without further ado, here are a few tips and opinions that I feel are important when considering your summer wedding outfit in the sun!

F O R  T H E  G U E S T

So if you are like me, i.e. more likely to be a guest that a bride at least for a while, then there are a few things to make a note of and that I'm telling myself in preparation for the wedding I'll be attending in Ibiza in July. First and foremost, comfort! It's going to be hot so in order to best enjoy my day as a wedding guest, I'm going to be wanting to be comfortable and cool in the blazing sun. The last thing I'll want is to be in a dress that is too tight and uncomfortable any I'll definitely be avoid colours that show sweat patches, ew!

Just because a summer wedding is likely to be hot, does not mean that you have a free pass to cleavage and legs, after all, it's still a formal occasion and more often than not, I'm sure most brides would not appreciate you as a guest turning up prepared to tan in your bikini and denim shorts! I think a lose-fit skirt and top or flowing dress is your best bet.

Take note of the expected attire as every wedding will be different. If you're as lucky as I am and you're due to attend a beach wedding, make sure your footwear is appropriate, pretty sandals, wedges if you like the height (stilettos will sink) or in our case, we are following a strict no shoe policy which of course I'm super excited about!

I'd keep jewellery to a minimum and wear your best! If you have any precious metals and delicate pieces they're always a winner in my opinion. Have you ever suffered from the costume jewellery faux pas where the colour rubs onto your skin...not a good look!

F O R  T H E  B R I D E

Thousands of brides to be every year are faced with the challenge of finding the right dress at the right price. There are dozens of great designers out there, and plenty of newcomers to check out as well. Still, not every girl wants the long train, the puffy skirt, or even the lacy bodice. Are there any other options when it comes to dressing for your own wedding? Of course!

Timeless and classy is key and won't date. Sometimes it’s best to start at the very beginning. Chances are you fell in love with the design and style of your engagement ring. The engagement ring is often still worn when the wedding band joins it at your marriage ceremony. Why not turn to options like Verragio rings to inspire the style for your dress? If you chose something modern and elegant, then that could be just what you’re looking for in a dress.

Modern styles of wedding dress are much more simple, practical, and elegant. There may be a flash of colour or hint of ornate stitching, but there won’t be anything excessively elaborate there. Because the venue is such an important part of the wedding, more and more women are choosing to spend their money getting the right setting. And the setting could well demand a particular cut or style of dress to make it more accessible. Cliff top, beach front, or green forest?

If many of the traditions of the wedding seem irrelevant to you, you’re not alone. Some women dislike the idea of being ‘given away.' The tradition of the veil has lost some favour, and even the idea of walking up an aisle can be off-putting. Perhaps you’re not keen on the idea of a big ‘white-dress’ wedding at all? There is no rule that says you have to wear a dress, and no rule determines its colour.

If you like the idea of a theme wedding, why not dress for that? If your theme is medieval, then you might choose a typical ‘maiden’ costume. Of course, if your theme is more contemporary, then it makes sense to avoid dresses that hark back to ancient times. Of course, some modern styles may not suit you. Don’t fall victim to common fashion mistakes just to fit in with a trend.

Jewellery can be very simple and elegant. A modern approach is to wear pieces that hold sentimental value rather than borrowing jewellery you don’t necessarily like. In addition to your engagement ring, you might be wearing your charm bracelet and a locket necklace when you say your vows. Pearls aren’t nearly as popular as they once were, and mom-in-law’s earrings have probably seen better days!

Don’t be afraid to choose comfort over looks when it comes to your shoes. Many brides dislike heels and instead choose sneakers. After all, they’re hidden under long-skirt wedding dresses. You will be on your feet for hours, and you’ll still need to perform your first dance (assuming that’s on your to-do list). So do it your way - ditch the veil, the train, and the tiara, and wear something that’s altogether more you!

Ladies Day at Aintree Racecourse

Wow, what a day I had on Friday! Firstly I want to say a big thank you to Aintree Racecourse and The Blogger Programme for inviting me and my boyfriend down to Ladies Day on Friday in support of the #FabulousFriday campaign to promote fabulous fashion and all around fun that Ladies Day brings. Of course it's not just for Ladies, with the knowledge that Ladies Day brings lots of beautiful ladies, the gentlemen arrived in force! It only takes a quick glance in the Newspapers to see those worse for wear however the press need to show more the true Ladies that certainly had me in awe at their lavish and extravagant style, all complete with try sophistication.

The day hosted 7 horse races in total of which I won 6 races! We also had a chance to view the races from the Platinum Lounge which gives the best view from above right on the finish line. The atmosphere is buzzing in the stands but its a whole other ball game when your standing at the very front almost within touching distance of the horses. Being a rider once myself, this is the first ever races I've attended that wasn't flat and I couldn't believe the size of the fences, they were my height! Quite daunting I imagine for the jockeys who weigh pretty much half of me (ok not quite half but not far off!) on race horses, the most powerful breed that would spook at a leaf blowing in the air! Nevertheless, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to watch races on a course that wasn't flat, its all the more exciting as a spectator because anything could happen!

I had such a fabulous Friday and loved every minute of it. The sun was shining all day which you couldn't ask for more when spending a full day outside in the British Spring season. With several wins pocketed and a few champagnes later, we called it a day after the last race and I'm already looking forward to the next Ladies Day at Aintree Racecourse!

Opening Blogger Mail!

One of my favourite Youtube videos or blog content to view is unboxing, blogger mail opening, what I got for my Birthday/Christmas etc. For me I find it really exciting, almost as if it is a kind of window shopping experience. Have you ever been guilty of window shopping online too? Going through your favourite fashion websites and adding items to your basket only to close the page and realise that you perhaps don't need to be spending right now. I think this is why I enjoy reading and viewing this type of content too. It's a shame bloggers feel the need to do disclaimers to justify they're not bragging or showing off because at the end of the day, on of the perks of being a blogger, especially as a full time blogger, is to try out and in some cases review lots of brands. I've recently received quite a lot of skin care brands amongst a few other items so thought I could haul them all together into one haul and create a blogger mail blogpost for you to see that sort of items I've recently been gifted! If there are any products or clothes you'd like me to try then let me know!

/ B E A U T Y /

One of my most gifted items as a blogger is for skincare and makeup brands. As you can see, I have quite a large selection of new products that I'm looking forward to trying out and in particular, a few different face masks that I've been wanting to try out for a while!

/ F A S H I O N /

I also have a few clothing items from a variety of companies and more on the way. I tend to show some of my favourite pieces of clothing over on my Instagram which you can find me at @freyafarrington1 and as you can see, brands know I love my neutral tones! There are also a couple of jewellery pieces I was kindly gifted and being a big fan of the Saccone-Jolys over on Youtube, I loved opening one of Anna Saccone's Star Sign designs from Stilnest.

/ L I F E S T Y L E /

I’m always looking for new, binge worthy box-sets, so hayu’s reality TV on demand is perfect for that Sunday night fix. They sent me an amazing box of goodies to make my night in with hayu even better! There are tonnes of shows including The Real Housewives and Keeping up with the Kardashians, (which is my favourite). The best bit about hayu is that it’s only £3.99 a month and they don’t tie you to a contract. With shows released the same day as the US – what’s not to love?
You can follow this link for a free one month trial of hayu! I can definitely recommend grabbing some popcorn and prosecco for yourselves whilst Keeping up with the Kardashians!

Sunday Vibes During The Week!

Ah! Sunday. The best day of the week in anyone’s book. This is the ultimate chill day where our makeup can be nice and light, our hair thrown into a messy bun and if we like, we can spend the day enjoying a good book and relaxing in an oversized shirt thrown over some underwear. Sunday’s vibe looks good on everyone, so why not take this attitude into the week?

Wednesday is a notoriously bad day for anyone to get to, known as the dreaded Hump Day, once you managed to negotiate it, you are only 48 hours away from weekend life. So this may be a beautiful day to strip back your look and get into your Sunday best.

So how are you going to take your Sunday and slam it slap bang in the middle of your week?

Lazy mornings are one of the best things about your weekend, while you may have to be at work at 8 am, you could set your alarm 30 minutes earlier and make the most of your comfy bed. Even better, you could jump up and use those extra minutes to do some yoga; this will boost your relaxed vibe and get you set up for the day in the right frame of mind.

One of the best things about Sunday is how comfy we are, so make the most of this today. Start with your underwear, go for beautiful and super cozy. Something you feel good in all day, and you want to strip down to as soon as your foot hits the door. There are some great styles on Knicker Locker if you want to get inspired. Spend a little more time in the bathroom, moisturizing every part of yourself, so your skin feels magnificent. Then get on with your makeup routine.

Go for a look that is laid back, perhaps keep your eyes bare with just a flick of eyeliner and no eyeshadow. A lick of mascara will open up your eyes while fooling people into thinking you are wearing next to no makeup. Nail your eyebrows but keep them as light as you can, the focus here should be on the flawless looking skin. Perhaps wear a lip plumping sheer lip gloss and go with the full on nude Sunday look.

This is the ultimate day for the messy bun, although it is worth remembering that a messy bun can take a fair bit of work to get it looking good. Using salt spray will help give you a little more texture so when you throw it up, you have plenty of volume. It also pays to have plenty of hair pins, so you can nip in the stray hairs that won’t do as they are told.

Finally, wear something a little looser than usual, if the weather is picking up, then you could go with a white, oversized shirt, this will give you that look of “I don’t even care” which is what you want when you are making Wednesday your new day of rest.

Get it stripped back girls!
