Capsule Collection Ideas for Cold Weather Fashion

Cold weather is upon us, and many of you are probably wondering what new additions to make to your fall and winter wardrobes. It can be difficult defining your own style if you don't have a specific look that you often wear. Even more so, it becomes even harder to make the best use of your garments if everything is so different and all over the board style-wise. That’s why I think it's best to stick with a capsule wardrobe, which means the wardrobe is full of just a few specific colours and styles that all complement each other, no matter which pieces you wear with which.

Of course, for my fall/winter wardrobe, I will be utilizing a monochromatic colour palette consisting of black, gray, and white. This theme is not only sleek, but it offers very appropriate tones for the cold seasons. If you’re ready to take your fall and winter looks to a new level of chicness and minimalism, there are a few ways that you can make your wardrobe fall in line with the black/gray white theme.

Athleisure

One of the most popular minimalist clothing styles as of lately is athleisure. Wearing athletic clothing as a sort of high-fashion statement has become increasingly cool. If you are not familiar with some minimalist athleisure brands that employ the monochrome look, I suggest you take a look at Y-3 on Lyst. It’s a collaboration between Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and classic sportswear brand Adidas. There is so much inspiration to be found in this collection ranging from jackets to sweatshirts to pants to shoes.

Trendy but Classic

If you are a little more traditional with your style, you don’t have to completely throw away your personality when going for a monochrome theme. You can mix classy and trendy pieces to create a fun look that’s not too attention-grabbing. Personally, I love the way a beautiful skirt contrasts a simple graphic T-shirt as shown on Glamour. It's low-key but still more feminine than an athleisure look. You can mix all kinds of different black, white, and gray pieces in and out with this outfit!

Edgy

Lastly, for those times when you want to give your outfit a little bit of attitude, there is nothing better than making great use out of leather. Both leather leggings and leather biker jackets are in style right now, so no matter how you choose to grunge things up, your monochromatic look is sure to bring the heat. You can even use black leather to add some edgy texture. Just look at this AOL slideshow, which shows you can mix leather leggings with athleisure and a traditional coat—bringing all three styles full-circle.

As long as your fall/ winter wardrobe sticks to a black, gray, and white colour scheme, you are sure to have endless outfit possibilities that will never get old. Having a monochromatic capsule wardrobe is definitely a chic, minimalist way to go!
