Fake Tan - Which Brand is Best?

Fake tan comparison which fake tan brand is best

With all the 'Insta-famous' bronzed beauties out there now, the competition for a good quality fake tan is like no other! I have been lucky enough to have been sent a few different fake tans to try from different brands. So I thought I'd put together a little review on each of the brands I have been sent to compare them to see which brand I think is the best for me. The finish will of course vary from person to person depending on your skin type and skin colour, I have quite a fair complexion naturally so I have to be extra cautious when applying fake tan to ensure I avoid any patches. Having given all of them a try and letting each one stay on for several days, here is my review on all of the following fake tan brands...

garnier summer body gradual tan

Price point: £5.49 for 250ml of the Garnier summer body lotion deep sun-kissed.
The Product: Firstly, t's important to realise that this is a gradual tan unlike some other instant fake tanning products that I have used in this post. I have used this product for a few consecutive weeks before going on holiday to build up what it claims to provide "a sun-kissed look". I used the product every other day after I showered. Although I did notice a gradual tan appear on my skin, the product leaves noticeable patches, particularly around my hands and feet. After you apply the product, it's claim to be 'fast-absorbing' is unfortunately not the case. Although when applying the product the formula feels very moisturising and smells of that lovely apricot extract, it did seem to take a long time to dry and the 'fake tan' biscuit odour becomes quite strong the more it develops. So all-in-all, this is my least favourite product of the collection.

st tropez instant tan wash off face and body tan medium dark

Price point: £7-£10 for 100ml of the St Tropez wash off instant tan face & body.
Product formula and application: This was a lovely product to try out, the colour finish is a lovely deep golden look as opposed to leaving that orange finish look like you've just been tangoed! Out of all the products this is my favourite for the finishing colour however unfortunately the "water and transfer resistant" claim is complete bull! I wore this tan on a night out and when looking back at pictures I cringe at the massive streak it left down my leg from a drink that must have spilt on me by accident. It's a shame because I loved the colour and finish it gave but unfortunately I can't rely on this particular product if there is going to be any change of rain, sweat or any liquid near me. I have used it since and will still continue to use it I'm sure as I love the bronzed colour it gives, I just have to be wary and cautious for my skin not to get wet.

vita liberata body blur instant dry oil self tan marula phenomenal fake tan

Price point: £29.95 for 100ml
Product formula and application: I was most surprised with this product, I've never tried anything like it before and when applying it with my hands my mouth was open with shock! Think of it essentially as a dark foundation for your body. I have only used this on one occasion so far and I applied it onto an already fake-tanned body onto just my legs to give it that 'air-brushed' effect. It really works! I had recently epilated my legs so my pores were quite visible and the Body Blur literally made them disappear! You can apply it with your hands and there is no need for a tanning mitt as it simply washes off without staining, as if it were your foundation. If you have ever tried Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, the consistency of the Body Blur is similar to that. It really is just like a heavy coverage foundation. The one and only negative that I have for this product is that is did transfer onto my clothes quite easily. I wouldn't recommend using it when wearing light coloured clothes. I also think it may be too thick to use all over the body, it's more of a finishing touch to an already tanned body just on your legs.

Price point: £39.00 for 100ml
Product formula and application: I had to do a bit of research before using this product as I wanted to make sure I was using it in the best possible way. Essentially its a dry manual oil that is a tan-building moisturiser with sun protection of SPF50. You will find product separation due to the fact it's an oil based product but a quick shake up before application solves that. I found the application to be fairly easier with my bare hands although you will need to wash then afterwards. It's a very luxurious feeling product which I love with a lovely fresh lemongrass scent and I feel this product would be most beneficial for those that go on holiday for a long weekend to somewhere like Marbella where you perhaps arrived having already had a spray tan to try and fit in with the bronzed goddesses over there and you want a sun tan lotion to protect your skin but nothing that will ruin your spray tan. Some people I know will say that sounds ridiculous but if you have been to know!

Price point: £37.50 for 150 ml
Product formula and application: As far as fake tan mousses go, this is one of my favourites. The only real downside is that it is quite pricey for such a similar outcome as the rest of them. Vita Liberata is a luxury tan that has had a lot of time and money spent into creating some special added benefits. These include Moisture Locking for 72hr skin hydration, Odour Remove™ for zero smell, pHenO2™ for the longest lasting tan, HyH20™ anti age hydration and Trystal3™ technology which allows tanning to work in a dry crystallised form. Te one that caught my attention most was the fact that it claims to be an odourless fake tan. It's true that upon application, there is no sign of any fake tan biscuity-like smell however I did notice a slight fake tan scent that night in bed. It was so slight and I do have a very sensitive nose, but I feel it's important to note that to be as fair as I can. What I can say is that it is by far the least 'fake-tan' smelling tanning product I own. That in itself says a lot! As for the claim that it lasts 2-3 weeks I can say that this is a very fair comment. However it's carefully written because although it lasts that long, that is with regular applications. So unlike any other fake tans whereby it starts getting patchy after a couple of days with you then needing to exfoliate and start all over again, the Vita Liberata pHenomenal formula allows you to reapply the product every few days for a good 2-3 weeks without the need to exfoliate it all off first. I can tell that this brand is a luxury brand even from the start with the way it's packaged. It's my favourite tan to recommend to those after a luxurious brand and for those who are willing to pay premium price.

xen tan fresh tanning mousse fake tan

Price point: £33.99 for 236ml of the Xen-Tan Fresh Tanning Body Mousse and £20.99 for 80ml of the Xen-Tan Fresh Face Tan.
Product formula and application: I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to try out the Xen-Tan Mousse and its definitely a discovery that I will now forever be re-purchasing! The price is mid-premium range but I really feel you get your moneys worth! It's the first tan I have ever used that has not left the tiniest of streaks or patches anywhere! When you pump the product out, it's actually colourless and it develops over a few hours. At first this worried me as I thought that not being able to see the colour transfer onto your skin would have a detrimental effect and result in a patchy application however it was the complete opposite! Although I do love the Vita Liberata range I have tried, it's the Xen-Tan Mousse that I naturally gravitate toward when using fake tan - it's definitely my go-to fake tan product. The packaging isn't quite as premium as the Vita Liberata, and it kind of reminds me of the St Moriz packaging which is a much more affordable brand as you can see below. However the bold pop of blue and silver  for some reason reminds me of holiday and I guess at the end of the day, when it comes to fake tan, its the product itself that's the most important. I used the medium/dark Xen-Tan mousse for the body, and the Xen-tan face tan is more of a gel consistency, again with very little colour initially. It's claim as a 'premium sunless tan' is one that I'd definitely agree with and it the winner for me!

st morio instant wash off fake tan face body tanning mousse dark matte medium

Price point: £4.00 for 200ml of the St. Moritz Instant Self Tanning Mousse.
Product formula and application: I feel very loyal towards this brand as I've used the St Moriz mousse tan from the first time I started using fake tan. It's definitely one of those staple products that every who likes fake tan should try at least once. It's so affordable that you can't really go wrong. I tend to reach for this once when I need an instant top up of my tan for a night out. The colour it leaves is similar to the St Tropez, a deep golden tan, less orange toned which I love. The only downside, as a cheaper product it doesn't tend to last as long and the product can even turn a green tone if left too long to oxidise.

Price point: £3-4 for 150ml of the St. Moritz Instant wash off face and body tan in Medium Matte.
Product formula and application: I believe this one may be discontinued now as I found it hard to search for online and to be completely honest, I'm not disappointed. It's not a product I'd rush back to buy and although there wasn't anything specifically wrong or bad about it, I just didn't love it and I'd much prefer to use the mousse from this range...not a product I'd recommend unfortunately.

A Review - Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

Hair extensions... a product I'm often asked if I'm wearing and proud to be able to say no, this is all my hair...until recently!

Everyone has their own flaws, imperfections and insecurities, as being a women, (or indeed a man), it's in our human nature. However, fortunately my hair has always been a part of me that I have been happy with - it grows quick, it's always been long and thick and I'm naturally blonde. Therefore, I have never felt the need to try extensions to lengthen my hair any more than it already is, but oh how wrong I was!

As soon as I tried the silky touch hair extensions by Irresistible Me, I fell in love with how they looked! They have a great colour co-ordination system to help you decide which colour is best for you, and I ordered the silky golden blonde. In order to get the full effect, I went all out and got the longest ones at 24 inches. In hindsight, I think 22 inches would have been perfect as it would have looked more natural on me. At 5ft 6inches I think 22 inch hair extensions would be great if you are wanting the long length. If you are blessed with more height than myself and you still want that extra long look then I'd say go for the 24 inch hair length.

The Irresistible Me clip in hair extensions have a wide variety of styles, lengths and colours to suit everyone. The hair is 100% Human Remy hair suitable for heating styling and washing as if it were your own hair, and with prices starting from $67, you can choose a style to suit your budget. The silky range which I was kindly sent by the Irresistible Me team, is a more affordable line and the amount of hair you get sent for the money was a real surprise to me. The hair comes in several sections, each wth different amounts of clips to fit different areas of your head. I only used about half of the amount of hair that was sent to me to create my look but of course you can add more or less to create the look you are after. I personally prefer the more natural look and if I added any more, I felt it was perhaps a little too voluminous for me.

All in all, I'm very impressed with the Irresistible Me silky clip in hair extensions. I even put them to the test and found the windiest spot I could possibly find on Pendle hill, with my hair blowing all over the place, the clips didn't budge! I'd definitely recommend these hair extensions for their quality as well as great customer service especially for those buying extensions for the first time; the team will be able to help you select the style and colour to best suit your hair type. They often have offers and discounts so keep a eye out for them!

How I Whiten My Teeth and GIVEAWAY!

Best Teeth Whitening

I am really excited for this week's blogpost as it is the first ever giveaway I have featured. I was kindly contacted by an American company called Smile Brilliant who I had seen before in a Youtube video by a new favourite of mine, Danielle Mansutti. Smile Brilliant is a dental lab designed to offer professional strength teeth whitening from not only the comfort of your own home, but also at a much more reasonable price. They have a variety of kits on offer for you to purchase depending on the gravity of your teeth stains.

Before I go into detail with the Smile Brilliant Kit, there are 2 other teeth whitening products I am featuring in this blogpost that I use on a regular basis to help keep my teeth stain free. As a coffee drinker, it's important to me to keep up a fairly regular teeth whitening process in order to avoid them turning yellow and discoloured.

The first product I would recommend is using a tooth whitening toothpaste twice a day. This can be part of your regular, daily routine to help maintain whiteness in between bleaching. The one I am currently using is the Nu Skin AP24 Fluoride Whitening Toothpaste.

Secondly, after you have used the Smile Brilliant Kit on your initial teeth whitening session, I like to use the Crest teeth whitening strips every once in a while, typically before a night out or special event. I will apply these strips whilst doing my hair a makeup and leave them on for around an hour.  I only use these once every couple of months as a top up and find they work really well.

Lastly, to kickstart your teeth whitening process off having never used any products before, and especially if you feel your teeth are particularly stained, I would highly recommend using a stronger product continually every day for a week or two. If you are consistent in using the product daily, you will notice a big difference. Smile Brilliant works great in this instance and their 100% satisfaction rate is a testimony to this.

After making your order online, you will be sent your tray creation set. This is shipped from the USA and only took about 3 working days to reach me in the UK! As soon as it arrives, you can follow the step by step instructions to create your teeth impressions. Then once your impressions are shipped back in the pre-stamped envelope, it takes a further 5-7 days for your personalised teeth whitening trays to be made up and sent back. You are then ready to begin the process of teeth whitening using the syringes they provide. They can also send you with de-sensitizing gel should you require it however I did not suffer with any sensitivity to my gums. I found the kit very easy to use and would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a drastic difference to the colour of your teeth. Although I did notice a difference to my teeth before and after using this product, the change was fairly minimal as my teeth were fairly white from having previously used the Crest strips. Smile Brilliant were kind enough to send another kit for my boyfriend, having never done any sort of teeth whitening before, I will be sharing with you the before and after pictures on my Facebook page,, so make sure to 'like' my page for his teeth whitening updates, I think you will be impressed with the difference!

So now to the exciting part, Smile Brilliant have been kind enough to provide my readers with a giveaway opportunity. This is international and easy, all you need to do is click here and enter your email below for the chance to win $139.95 worth of store credit which will get you teeth Whitening Trays + 3 whitening gel syringes and 3 desensitizing gel syringes or the Teeth Whitening Trays + 6 whitening gel syringes.

* This giveaway will end Sunday 5th June

** This giveaway is open internationally

Best of Luck!

Different Ways to Wear All-White Outfits

In my previous look book collaboration with The Chic Blog I showcased various ways to wear all black outfits and included some of my favourite black items from my wardrobe. It seemed to get quite a bit of positive feedback so we decided to collaborate again, but this time with a white themed look book. What's more, with a recent makeover to my blog where I decided to strip it all back to basics and focus my blogposts and photos to be almost all monochrome, I feel this look book fits my new 'white feed' theme perfectly!

As we approach the summer season here in the UK, I am loving the 'all-white' outfits that seem to be a favourite amongst the celebrities. It only takes a quick search on Pinterest of 'white outfits' and I'm hooked for hours, re-pinning loads of photos to my fashion Pinterest board. Wearing all white outfits can have several benefits, it can make you look younger and feel fresher-faced, it highlights your tan, and it's a great way to style a chic, classy and sophisticated look that you can take from day to night.

It's fast becoming a hobby of mine to grab a coffee, put my feet up and look in awe of all the photos  Pinterest has, and if ever you're stuck for outfit inspiration or if you're wanting to find ideas on how to wear all white outfits, I strongly urge you to have a browse on Pinterest, but be warned, it's highly addictive! So that's exactly what I did to try and get a little inspiration for this white look book and after raiding my wardrobe, here's what I came up with (all product information is listed below). I'd love to hear your thoughts on all-white outfits and be sure to let me know your favourite white fashion items!

An Evening at Vapiano Restaurant in Manchester

My boyfriend and I were kindly invited to try out the food at Vapiano Italian Restaurant as part of their #EatPastaRunFaster campaign, a meal plan constructed by Dietitian and Nutritionist Dr Sarah Schenker designed for those who are looking to keep fit, all whilst still enjoying good food. Sarah says: "It’s important to balance your carbohydrate intake with plenty of protein. The delicious pasta dishes from Vapiano can be a big part of your fitness plan whether you’re a runner, cyclist, body builder or partake in any regular sport." So here is a few words and ratings that I give Vapiano...
I have to say the vibe and atmosphere of Vapiano was the stand out feature for me. The interior design has been heavily invested in to make you feel like you are dining in a local Italian, family-run restaurant all whilst retaining the upmarket and modern style. I'd certainly take inspiration from some of the stand out features like the indoor greenery, the marble finishings and fresh produce stands for my own home. Vapiano is situated in the recently refurbished Corn Exchange opposite Selfridges.
THE FOOD – 10/10
Italian food is my favourite kind of food so you can appreciate how grateful I was to be invited to try out the food in Vapiano. We were encouraged to try a bit of everything so we did exactly that! I honestly could not fault the food and the fact that my boyfriend owns a restaurant and even he rated the food a ten, that goes to show how impressed we were. The only slight thing I'd pick up on is the range of desserts could have been slightly bigger to have more of a choice.

The self-service concept means there are no servers or table service. You first collect a card at the front desk which you use as payment for your food and then sit wherever you choose. Considering the self-service style, its hard to rate the service, that's not to say it wasn't good, it's just the way Vapiano works. Nonetheless, the staff who greeted us and of course the chefs were very professional and friendly and were the perfect addition to the Italian vibe.

THE PRICE - 8/10
My boyfriend and I were kindly invited to try out the food at Vapiano Italian Restaurant as part of their #EatPastaRunFaster campaign so all expenses were kindly paid for by the Vapiano team (but as always, all views are of my own). However, knowing the prices before hand, I believe value for money is actually quite good with Vapiano. What's more, you can see exactly what is going into your meal and all the ingredients are fresh, not to mention the interior creating a classy yet relaxed vibe and I love the feeling of not being in a larger, and in some cases cheaper, chain restaurant.

If you are interested in learning more about Dr Sarah Schenker's #EatPastaRunFaster meal plan, you can read more here and incorporate the below dishes into your weekly diet plan:

Pasta Bolognese – delivers plenty of carbohydrate to build stores of glycogen in the liver and muscles. The beef provides high quality protein needed for muscle strength and repair. It is also a good source of easily absorbed iron needed for the transportation of oxygen in red blood cells. The tomatoes deliver beta carotene needed to protect cells from oxidative damage (increased in runners) and boost immunity.

Pasta pomodoro – tops up carbohydrate (glycogen) stores. The meal eaten the night before is crucial in delivering the last top up of glycogen to help avoid ‘hitting the wall’. Needs to be a safe easily digested meal that won’t cause any digestive problems or stomach upsets on any already nervous stomach.

Rucola ravioli (recovery meal)– glycogen stores will be depleted so carbohydrate from pasta is important to help muscles recover. There is plenty of whey protein from the ricotta which delivers special amino acids that are effective in helping to repair the muscles and prevent muscle soreness.

Freya Farrington: The New Look

If you haven't already noticed my Instagram feed and Facebook posts this week, then you are yet to discover that Freya Farrington Blog has had a makeover! The main thing that inspires me to blog is simply other bloggers that inspire me! The blogs that I tend to follow are mainly white themed with all monochrome tones to their feed. Therefore I spent some time doing a little research and editing some photos to see if I could make my own white themed photos. I am already in love with the new look of Freya Farrington and I hope my posts inspire others in the same way that I have been inspired. I'm instantly more passionate about my blog, to the point whereby some nights I struggle to sleep, thinking up new ideas and plans I have for my blog. You know, that feeling of spending hours on Youtube watching haul videos make you want to go shopping, or spending hours scrolling down Pinterest makes you want to review your entire wardrobe, well that's how I feel now I have re-branded Freya Farrington to focus on monochrome tones. The idea sprung upon me after a spring clean/clear out of my wardrobe which made me realise how many black white and grey coloured clothes I have (I may even have a little problem)!

At almost a year old, I have been so excited to work on this new theme for Freya Farrington. Some bloggers tend to have a bit of a dry spell where they lose a little passion for their blog compared to when they first set it up. I think it's important to remain persistent when blogging, post regularly, get involved with the blogging community and I think Freya Farrington needed a little update and I felt it was just missing that fluidity in it's theme. I hope you like the new theme as much as I do and I'm so happy that this new design truly reflects my personal style and creativity!

The platform where the most notable difference is lies within Instagram, so if you like monochrome as much as I do, join me on my new found journey by following @freyafarrington1 on Instagram and keep up to date with regular, daily posts by tapping those few little dots, also know as ellipses...
