eBay Makeup Brushes from £1!

After having given all my makeup brushes a thorough clean today, I was inspired to do a blogpost on them. I want to share with you some amazing makeup brushes that I found on eBay. If you a looking for a cheaper dupe to the Real Techniques brushes then these are perfect for you.

There is a vast range of these brushes being sold by UK eBay sellers ranging from just 99p up to £4.99 for a set of 5. If you have never purchased them before, then I would highly recommend starting out with getting the set of 5 to try out for yourself, then you can always pick and choose your favourites from those five and then purchase them as individuals. You can of course stick with just the original 5 but I found it useful to double up on some of my favourites as I can then use them for different purposes.

So, on to the brushes! The sets come in either pink, blue or orange/gold.

The first brush has flat top perfect for buffing in liquid foundations and blending down the neckline.

The second brush is a good replica of the expert face brush. This one is perfect for the application and blending of cream or liquid foundation. You can probably see the little dent which is how it arrived - the packaging is probably slightly cheaper but the brush quality is great, no shedding so can't really complain at £1 per brush!

The third brush is an angled sculpting brush perfect for accentuating bone structure and enhancing facial features if you like that Kim Kardashian defined and contoured look.

The fourth brush is probably my least favourite. It appears to be a dupe for the stiplling brush, which I use on a regular basis to apply liquid foundation. However the eBay version is better suited to applying a cream or powder highlight.

Finally, the fifth brush, which is my favourite of the collection, has a tapered end allowing it to host a variety of uses. So much so that I repurchased 2 more of the exact same brush. One for carving out cheekbones with cream or powder based contour. A second for using setting powder under my eyes and a third for highlighting.

All in all, a great dupe set if you are looking for more affordable alternatives. If anyone has tried the new metallic collection by Sam and Nic (Pixiwoo for Real Techniques) then let me know! As a side note, I also think it is worth mentioning that Real Techniques when you compare to the likes of Mac and CHANEL brushes, are already a very affordable range that I will continue to buy for the foreseeable future, these eBay brushes are, in my opinion, best to expand your brush collection alongside the Real Techniques collection.

Burnley FC Player of the Year Awards 2015

On Monday 25th May I was lucky enough to be invited to the Burnley FC Player of the Year Awards. With a chance to dress up, enjoy a delicious 3-course meal and meet lots of new people, I thought I would take my camera along and share the night with my blog.

So the evening started at 5:30pm with a champagne reception and cocktails sponsored by Benedictine. The evening then proceeded with a host of various games, quizzes and raffles (all football related obviously) in between courses. The menu was the standard prawn, chicken and tart menu however the quality was pretty impressive considering the amount of covers they had, with the best course saved until last!

The night concluded with the ultimate award, Burnley FC Player of the Year 2015, George Boyd. After speeches and mingling, the night began to fizzle out with all attendees being given a free ticket to the after party, which was hosted by Burnley’s top nightspot, Illuminati.

Everyone dressed up for the occasion, put on their dancing shoes and partied into the early hours of the next morning for what was a really memorable night! It’s safe to say, for those who did not think ahead to book the following day off work, they definitely found themselves calling in sick!

What I Wore

Kardashian Beauty (KHROMA) ‘In the Nude’ Lip Set Review

I guess the first thing to mention in this review is that I bought this lip set from T K Maxx at £9.99. The reason for the discount; ‘Khroma’, as a brand, no longer exists. However you can still get this exact set on, labeled instead as ‘Kardashian Beauty’ if you can’t hunt down the discounted version in T K Maxx.

So, a controversial product, created by a controversial family brand. I personally love following the Kardashians on all social media platforms. Those of you who agree with me will realise it’s almost an addiction! Any new article, or new Instagram picture I’ve probably seen the moment it was released. That aside, I’m not an avid fan as to own everything and anything that has their name on it. I simply am drawn to nude lip products and this gorgeous rose gold and white lip combo set does not disappoint.

At RRP of only £14.95, the set includes a double-ended lip liner and lipstick as well as a lipgloss, all designed to complement each other. However, 3 products at that price, the quality does represent the affordability unfortunately, which is a real shame. The colour payoff is great, it’s the perfect colour for my skin and the consistency of the lip gloss is not thick or sticky. It’s downfall is it’s durability. No sooner have I applied it, it starts to wear off.

Nevertheless, it is a product that I will continue to use. I do love the colour and it is the perfect lip combo to wear on a night out wear you can fit them in your clutch and re-apply as you go, which let’s face it, we all reapply each visit to the toilets anyway! What’s more, worst case with a night out, you accidently lose it, it’s not a break-the-bank product like if you were to lose your CHANEL lipstick!

All-in-all, great colour, consistency and packaging, but probably not a repurchase.

The Press Tent Manchester Blogger Meet Up

On Wednesday 20th May 2015, the lovely girls at The Press Tent held their first of many blogger meet-up events. The fabulous evening gave Northern-based bloggers the chance to meet up as well as giving a variety of local fashion brands the opportunity to showcase their collections.

Situated right in the heart of Manchester at the creative hub known as The Escalator, a total of 70 bloggers, including myself were invited along to enjoy some cocktails and shop brands with everyone leaving the event with a goody bag full of freebies to enjoy!

The incredible cocktails kick started the evening with drinks provided by the very talented bartender from Illuminati Bar in Burnley, Salvatore Leone. The alcoholic brands on showcase were Luc Belaire, Luxardo Cocktails and Licor 43, Cellar Trends.

So let’s talk fashion! The following brands were present: Koko Couture, Llunaa, DML Jeans, Swade Clothing, Wicker Wings, Miss Foxy, Jailbird Jeans, What Emma Did, Rock On Ruby, Twin Face, Naa Naa Clothing, Madam Rage. The stand out for myself personally was Rock On Ruby. Their little poodle mascot, Ruby, represents the quirky but bold face of the brand. I particularly like their gym wear and if wearing an outfit of theirs doesn’t motivate you to head to the gym, then I don’t know what will! If accessories are more your thing, they also have a whole host of goodies soon to be launched on their website. Miss Foxy, Madame Rage and Naa Naa Clothing have some great pieces for nights out and occasions, and all very affordable!

I want to say a massive thank you to the event organisers and I look forward to the many more events to come!

Simple Breakfast to Kickstart Your Morning

Start your morning with a healthy but hearty breakfast to kick start your day.

I am trying to swap the sugar-loaded cereal for a more nutrition-packed breakfast and here is a very simple idea that is so quick and easy to make. It is also filling and energy-boosting that I am hoping will inspire me to remain healthy for the rest of the day. And because it's the weekend, I've thrown in a pain au chocolat into the mix as a little treat!

'Total' Greek Yoghurt
A handful of Muesli
A drizzle of 10+ Manuka Honey
Mixed berries (preferably blueberries)

Pain au chocolat

...and of course, COFFEE!

Kylie Jenner Lip Dupe

Kylie Jenner... If you have followed the Kardashians for a while, you will have noticed she has arguably turned her image from least to most popular. The reason? Her lips!

I truly believe that she has made the best decision getting her lips done. Let's face it, we all knew she had fillers and finally years later, thanks to the push from her sister Khloe, she has admitted her plumped look is not solely dependant on the lipliner.

However, if lip fillers are not for you, a good lipliner - lipstick duo really can change the shape and size of your lips. Perhaps you need a little evening out, perhaps you want to create an illusion of a slightly fuller look in general? If you master the technique correctly you really can achieve a more desired look.

Remember that famous selfie Kylie took, whereby no one seemed to notice the drastic punk rocker blue and black dip dyed hair look, but all the attention was on the plumped up lips? She thanked the Mac lipliner in 'Whirl' and Mac lipstick in 'Velvet Teddy'.

However nice these colours are, they are almost impossible to hunt down as every store and even online always are sold out! So here is a cheaper and more accessible alternative for you to get your hands on.

Products used:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

What it is:
“The premier contour and highlighting palette for professional makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts alike. Features 6 perfectly crafted highlighting and contouring shades for sculpting and defining your features.”

What it does:
This contouring collectible contains six blendable formulas to sculpt and define features. Darker shades are ideal for shading and defining, while lighter shades sculpt and enhance features. Removable and refillable, the set contains all the color needed to start expertly emphasizing eyes, cheekbones, nose, and jawline. These formulas are dermatologist tested to be hypoallergenic.

This set contains:
- 6 x 0.11 oz Powders
Top Row (L-R): Vanilla, Banana, Sand.
Bottom Row (L-R): Java, Fawn, Havana.

All the shades are matte, except for Sand which is a shimmer. Each pan is held in place by a magnetic bottom and is removable if it needs to be replaced.

We have all seen the images of Kim Kardashian, Beyonce etc with the stripes of contour and highlight plastered onto their naturally beautiful faces, but does this really translate into an everyday makeup for everyone else. Well the answer is yes it can!

For normal daylight and close up this look when done incorrectly can look awful. It's common for people to contour with their bronzer which usually ends up looking too orange. It's totally dependent on your natural skin tone which shades you need to use but the colours to go for are not what you may initially go for.

On a medium, olive or darker skin tone you can get away with using a warm contour colour however if you are lighter skinned you need to go for a cooler, almost greyish tone.

Anastasia Beverly Hills have pulled out all the stops with their new contour palette. There really is a contour and highlight shade for every single person out there. And what’s more, there are 21 more shades if you do want to refill them at a later date with different colours!

Vanilla and banana are both a matte highlighter whilst sand has a shimmer finish to catch the light. Java, fawn and havana are three matte colours with varying levels of warmth to suit a good range of skin tones. Personally I love the colour fawn. It's the perfect contour for those with a naturally fair complexion. The texture is buttery soft, perfect for blending with next to no fallout at all! The colour payoff is so good that a little goes an incredibly long way. They last well (more value for your money) and don't cling or go patchy.

TIP: If you are unsure of your undertones then this guide is a good one to follow....

Warm-Yellow, golden; veins on wrist appear mostly green
Cool-Pink, rosy; veins on wrist appear mostly blue
Neutral-Balance between warm and cool; veins on wrist appear blue and green
Beige-Caramel, honey, deeper in tone than neutral; veins on wrist appear blue and green
Olive-Slightly green, bronze; veins on wrist appear blue and green.

UK buyers can get this ‘impossible to get your hands on’ contour kit at Cult Beauty for £39.99
